George Glover's Marriage and Family

George Glover married Harriet Thomas 10 May 1870 at the age of 24.  Harriet Thomas resided in Lehi, Utah, but how they met we do not know. Harriet had arrived in Utah from England the year before. (Read her story).  They were married in the Endowment House by Joseph F. Smith.

They lived in West Jordan until the fall of 1872 when they were able to homestead a piece of ground in the north part of Lehi, Utah.  For the first time in his life George became a farmer.  He built the first brick home in Lehi but for some reason the house was not constructed properly and in later years the walls began to crack.  When the wind blew hard, Harriet would become frightened and would take the children and some blankets outside and put them under the current bushes for protection from the wind and rain.  Here they would stay until the wind storm was over.  She never ceased to worry for fear the walls might fall and hurt the children.  The house was eventually torn down and they lived in a small frame house the rest of their lives.  The bricks were saved and they intended to build but never did.

Harriett had twelve children and THREE sets of twins but only three children lived to maturity.  The first child George age 16 and the second child Mary Elizabeth age 15 died of Diphtheria.  The next children were twins James and Harriett and they died at 2 months of age, 2 days apart, of  "Summer Diarrhea."  The next children were also twins, Joseph and Winifred and they lived to maturity.  The next child was Grandma Rosalind and she lived to age 92!  The next child, Hyrum lived to age 4 and the next twins, Alfonso and Alma, were 6 month old and died of "Summer Diarrhea" 8 days apart.  The next  child Asa lived to be 4 years old and the last child Randolph lived 20 months, cause of death not known. It is interesting that none of the children died at birth.
